โก 1. Inverted Conditionals (Omessa della congiunzione ‘If’)
Nello stile formale e formale-letterario, la congiunzione If viene eliminata e sostituita dall’inversione dell’ausiliare (stile interrogativo):
| Tipo Ipotetico | Struttura Standard con ‘If’ | Struttura Invertita Formale (C1/C2) |
|---|---|---|
| Primo Tipo (Possibile) | If you require any help, call me. | Should you require any help, call me. |
| Secondo Tipo (Improbabile) | If I were in your position, I’d accept. | Were I in your position, I’d accept. |
| Terzo Tipo (Impossibile) | If we had known about the delay, we’d have waited. | Had we known about the delay, we’d have waited. |
๐ 2. Mixed Conditionals (Ipotetiche Miste)
I periodi ipotetici misti collegano tempi verbali diversi per esprimere il rapporto causa-effetto tra passato e presente:
- Causa nel Passato โ Conseguenza nel Presente:
If + Past Perfect โ Would + Forma Base
“If I had taken his advice last night, I would be safe now.” (Azione passata con impatto presente). - Condizione Generale/Presente โ Conseguenza nel Passato:
If + Past Simple โ Would have + Participio Passato
“If she were more cautious, she wouldn’t have lost her passport yesterday.” (Caratteristica permanente che ha influenzato un evento passato).
๐ ๏ธ 3. Alternative Conditional Expressions
Sostituiscono if o if not aggiungendo enfasi o eleganza stilistica:
| Espressione | Significato / Uso | Esempio C1/C2 |
|---|---|---|
| But for + Nome | Se non fosse per / Senza | But for your assistance, we would have failed. |
| Were it not for + Nome | Se non fosse per (presente) | Were it not for the rain, we could go hiking. |
| Had it not been for + Nome | Se non fosse stato per (passato) | Had it not been for his warning, I’d have fallen. |
| Supposing / Provided that | Nell’ipotesi che / A condizione che | Provided that all conditions are met, we will sign. |
๐ซ Errori Comuni da Evitare nei Test C1/C2
| Errore Frequente โ | Forma Corretta โ |
|---|---|
| If had I known, I would have come. | Had I known, I would have come. (Non mettere ‘if’ insieme all’inversione!). |
| Should you to need help, call us. | Should you need help, call us. (‘Should’ richiede il verbo al formato base senza ‘to’). |
| But for I helped him, he failed. | But for my help, he would have failed. (‘But for’ vuole un sostantivo/pronome, non una proposizione). |
