1. Al check-in
- «I'd like to check in for the flight to London.»
- «Can I have a window seat?» — Posso avere un posto vicino al finestrino? (Aisle seat = corridoio)
- «I have one bag to check in.» — Ho un bagaglio da imbarcare.
- «Is my bag within the weight limit?» — Il mio bagaglio rientra nel peso consentito?
2. Ai controlli di sicurezza
- «Do I have to take my laptop out?» — Devo tirare fuori il computer?
- «Do I need to take off my shoes?» — Devo togliermi le scarpe?
- «Is this liquid allowed?» — Questo liquido è consentito?
3. Al gate

- «Which gate is the flight to Dublin?»
- «What time does boarding start?» — A che ora inizia l'imbarco?
- «Is the flight delayed?» — Il volo è in ritardo?
4. In dogana, all'arrivo
- «I'm here on vacation.» — Sono qui in vacanza.
- «I'm staying for five days.» — Rimango cinque giorni.
- «I'm staying at the Central Hotel.» — Alloggio al Central Hotel.
5. Se qualcosa va storto
- «I missed my flight.» — Ho perso il volo.
- «My luggage hasn't arrived.» — Il mio bagaglio non è arrivato.
- «Could you help me, please?»
Se non capisci, dì: «Sorry, could you repeat that, please?» o «Could you speak more slowly?».
The airport is the perfect place to learn how useful English is. Everything is in English: the signs, the announcements, the staff. Everybody is in a hurry, except the bags, which take forever to arrive.
Here are the phrases you need, in the order you will use them.

1. At check-in
- "I'd like to check in for the flight to London."
- "Can I have a window seat?" (Aisle seat = next to the corridor)
- "I have one bag to check in."
- "Is my bag within the weight limit?"
2. At security
- "Do I have to take my laptop out?"
- "Do I need to take off my shoes?"
- "Is this liquid allowed?"
3. At the gate

- "Which gate is the flight to Dublin?"
- "What time does boarding start?"
- "Is the flight delayed?"
4. At customs, when you arrive
- "I'm here on vacation."
- "I'm staying for five days."
- "I'm staying at the Central Hotel."
5. If something goes wrong
- "I missed my flight."
- "My luggage hasn't arrived."
- "Could you help me, please?"
One tip: at the airport, staying calm is everything. If you don't understand, say: "Sorry, could you repeat that, please?" or "Could you speak more slowly?" Nobody gets angry. They hear this every day.
And a last trick: before you leave, practice these phrases out loud. Under stress, the brain does not improvise. It only remembers what you have already said at least once.
