Participle Clauses (C1/C2)

🌟 Present Participle Clauses (-ing)

Frase Estesa (Subordinata)Clausola Participiale (Avanzata)
As she walked down the street, she met an old friend.Walking down the street, she met an old friend.
Because he didn’t know the rules, he made a mistake. Not knowing the rules, he made a mistake.

*because it was written* ➔ *written*).

  • Written in a hurry, the report contained several errors. (➔ Because it was written in a hurry…)
  • Left alone in the house, the boy started to cry. (➔ When he was left alone…)

🔗 Perfect Participle Clauses (Having + V3)

  • Having finished his homework, Mark went out to play. (➔ After he had finished his homework…)
  • Having missed the train, she had to wait for the next one. (➔ Because she had missed the train…)

🛠️ Come costruirle

🚫 Errori comuni da evitare

Errore C1/C2 ❌Corretto ✅
Walking in the park, a dog barked at me.Walking in the park, I was barked at by a dog (o While I was walking…).
Finished the book, she went to sleep.Having finished the book, she went to sleep.
Because knowing the truth, he decided to speak.Knowing the truth, he decided to speak. (Nelle clausole participiali si omettono congiunzioni come ‘because’ o ‘as’!)
