✈️ Present Perfect vs Past Simple for experiences

When you talk about a general travel experience without saying *when* you went, use the Present Perfect (have + past participle). If you give a date or a precise moment in the past (yesterday, last year), switch to the Past Simple.

  • ✅ I have visited Spain. (Life experience, no date).
  • ✅ I visited Spain last year. (Specific time ➔ Past Simple).
  • ❌ *I have visited Spain last year.* (Very serious mixed-up mistake!).

🌟 Ever and Never: Where do they go?

In questions about experiences we use Ever (meaning “at any time” in questions), while in negative answers we use Never (which already contains the negative).

  • ✅ Have you ever been to Japan?
  • ✅ No, I have never been there. (Don’t say: *I haven’t never* ➔ double negatives are not allowed!).

⏳ For vs Since: How long a trip lasts

To say how long you have been in a place or doing an activity:

  • FOR is used for a *period of time* (for 3 days, for 2 weeks).
  • SINCE is used for a *precise starting point* (since Monday, since 2024).
  • ❌ Using *since* with a length of time (*since 3 days* is a deadly mistake!).

🌍 Been to vs Gone to

  • ✅ I have been to Paris. (I went there and I’m back now).
  • ✅ He has gone to Paris. (He left for Paris and is still there).
