🎯 Lesson goal
In this lesson you will learn to tell make and do apart 📖, so you can use both verbs correctly and naturally.
You will understand when to use one or the other 🧠, with simple examples and a visual trick you won’t forget! 🚀
🌟 What do “make” and “do” mean?
Make ➔ to create or produce something new that didn’t exist before 🛠️
Do ➔ to perform a general action, without creating anything new 🔄
✨ Imagine this:
If you are leaving something behind you (a cake, a mistake, a plan…), use make.
If you are just doing something, without creating a result you can point at, use do.
🔍 When do we use “Make”?
✅ We use make when you create, produce or generate something concrete or clearly defined, even if it isn’t physical.
Examples:
- I made a cake. 🎂
- She made a mistake. ❌
- They made a decision. 🧠
- He made a phone call. 📞
🔍 When do we use “Do”?
✅ We use do for general actions, tasks, jobs and routine activities.
Examples:
- I do my homework every evening. 📚
- She does the cleaning at home. 🧹
- We do exercise every morning. 🏋️
- They do the shopping on Saturday. 🛒
💡 Note: activities like exercise or yoga also use do, because you aren’t creating something, just acting.
E.g. do exercise, do yoga, do sport.
