Modals of Deduction & Speculation (C1/C2)
|---|---|---|
| Must | Certezza quasi assoluta (Logica) | You look pale; you must be ill. |
| Can’t / Couldn’t | Impossibilità logica | That can’t be his car; he doesn’t drive. |
| May / Might / Could | Possibilità (50/50 o meno) | She might be stuck in traffic. |
⏱️ Deduzione Passata
- Must have + V3: He must have forgotten about our meeting. (Sono quasi certo che abbia dimenticato).
- Can’t / Couldn’t have + V3: She can’t have taken my keys; I have them here. (È impossibile che le abbia prese).
- May / Might / Could have + V3: They might have arrived earlier than expected. (È possibile che siano arrivati…).
🛠️ Come costruirli
|---|---|---|
| Presente / Stato | Modale + Base Form (V1) | He must be tired. |
| Presente Continuo | Modale + be + -ing | She might be working. |
| Passato (Azione) | Modale + have + V3 | He must have left. |
| Passato Continuo | Modale + have been + -ing | They might have been sleeping. |
🚫 Errori comuni da evitare
| Errore C1/C2 ❌ | Corretto ✅ |
|---|---|
| He must be gone yesterday. | He must have gone yesterday. (Per il passato serve sempre ‘have + V3’!) |
| It can’t be true, he has been dreaming. | It can’t be true; he must have been dreaming. (Se è impossibile nel presente, la causa passata vuole ‘must have been’!) |
| She might not have go to the party. | She might not have gone to the party. |
