1. The “like … very much” rule ⚡
Many learners say “I like very much pizza” by translating word for word. It is one of the worst mistakes, because in English the object (pizza) can never be separated from the verb (like)!
- ✅ Correct: I like pizza very much. (The adverb goes at the end!)
- ✅ Correct: I really like pizza. (The adverb goes before the verb.)
- ❌ Big mistake: I like very much pizza.
2. Short Answers and Possessives 🗝️
| When to use it | Correct ✅ | Mistake ❌ |
|---|---|---|
| A short “yes” answer 👍 | Yes, I do. | Yes, I like. (The object is missing!) |
| Your favourite food 🍕 | My favorite food | The my favorite food |
| Cooking (in general) 🍳 | I like cooking. | I like cook. |
