🌟 A cosa servono Past Simple e Past Continuous?

• Past Simple ➔ per parlare di azioni finite e concluse nel passato. ✅
  
• Past Continuous ➔ per parlare di azioni in corso a un momento preciso nel passato. ⏳
  

🔍 Come si formano?

Past Simple:
➔ Soggetto + verbo al passato (verbi regolari: +ed; verbi irregolari: forma propria)

Esempi:

• I visited Rome last year. ➔ (Ho visitato Roma l’anno scorso.) 🏛️
  
• She ate pizza yesterday. ➔ (Lei ha mangiato la pizza ieri.) 🍕
  

Past Continuous:
➔ Soggetto + was/were + verbo + -ing

Esempi:

• I was studying at 9 p.m. ➔ (Stavo studiando alle 9 di sera.) 📚
  
• They were playing football when it started to rain. ➔ (Stavano giocando a calcio quando ha iniziato a piovere.) ⚽☔
  

🧩 Schema riassuntivo – Past Simple vs Past Continuous

❓ Quando usarli insieme?

Spesso si usano insieme nella stessa frase:

• Past Continuous ➔ azione lunga in corso.
  
• Past Simple ➔ azione breve che interrompe.
  

Formula:
Mentre stavo facendo X, successe Y.

Esempi:

• I was reading when the phone rang. ➔ (Stavo leggendo quando il telefono squillò.) ☎️
  
• She was cooking when he arrived. ➔ (Lei stava cucinando quando lui è arrivato.) 🍳
  

❓ Dubbi basilari chiariti

• Uso Past Simple se l’azione è finita?
  ➔ Sì! Sempre!
  
• Uso Past Continuous se l’azione era in corso?
  ➔ Sì! Serve per descrivere il contesto o lo sfondo.
  
• Serve usare sempre “when” o “while”?
  ➔ No, ma when (= quando) e while (= mentre) aiutano a collegare le azioni!
  

🚫 Errori comuni da evitare

• ❌ I was play football yesterday. ➔ ✅ I played football yesterday. (azione finita ➔ Past Simple!)
  
• ❌ They played when it rained. ➔ ✅ They were playing when it rained. (azione in corso ➔ Past Continuous!)
  

👉 Ricorda: Pensa se l’azione era breve/conclusa o lunga/in corso!
